PICulator

The PICulator is a bootstrap loader for Flash PIC devices such as the popular PIC16F876. It allows in circuit programming of the PIC without the use of a PIC programmer, a simple RS232 buffer is all that is required to allow programming from a PC. Unlike most bootstrap loaders the PICulator does not use the PICs on chip serial port, this leaves the PICs UART completely free for use by the application.

  • Low overhead - Needs only 1 I/O pin (RA4) + access to the MCLR pin.

  • Fast - 19K2 serial communications with the PC driver.
  • Easy to use - Drag a Hex file and drop it on the Windows based driver icon, that's it!
  • Complete - Can program both Flash program memory and EEPROM data memory.
  • Secure - All data is verified by read back.
  • Transparent - User application is run 150mS after reset in the absence of a load signal from the driver.

The initial version of the PICulator is restricted to the PIC16F876/877 @ 20 MHz. If you have other requirements, please contact us and we may be able to accommodate you.

As of Ver 3.11 the µFlash and PICulator share a common PC driver program.

Programming a PICulator PIC16F876 with a µPod

µPod

The µPod is a compact and easy to use interface for the PICulator bootstrap loader. Simply plugs onto a 4 pin header on the target board and allows direct programming from a PC using the µFlash/PICulator Driver utility.
